Thanks, this helps. I now have
format.outputdate = %Y-%m-%d
format.inputdate = 4
format.dayheading = %-d %B %Y
which is perfect for me.
I remember a discussion that the format of apts is difficult to change.
Since there is format.outputdate, this does not matter.
